Herford: The Fox and the Lion

A Fox who never, strange to say,
Had seen the King of Beasts, one day
Beheld a Lion. At the sight
He very nearly died of fright.
The second time he met the King
He felt a sort of shivering
Sensation up and down his spine,
But outwardly betrayed no sign.
The third time they met face to face
The Fox showed not the slightest trace
Of fear, but bold as anything
Walked up and said, "Good morning, King!"
