One whom a furious Dog had ript,
Threw him a sop in blood well dipt;
Which in some foolish book he found
A recipe to cure the wound.
When Esop thus, "Conceal, I pray,
From other Dogs the price you pay;
We all shall be devoured alive,
If such rewards for bites you give."
Successful crimes the bad excite,
And to worse wickedness invite.
