A fawn once said to a stag: "Pray tell me why
You are so frightened when a dog comes nigh.
You are larger, stronger, and fleeter than he,
So why he should frighten you I cannot see.
I am sure if the dogs knew this to be true
They certainly all would be fleeing from you."
"My friend," said the stag, "there's been many a day
I have said to myself just what you now say,
But, for all that, I am not sure I could win,
And a dog makes me want to jump from my skin."
