L'Estrange: A Boy and Fortune.

There was a Boy fast asleep upon the very Brink of a River. Fortune came to him, and wak'd him. Child, says she, prithee get up, and go thy Ways, thou't tumble in and be drown'd else, and then the Fault will be laid upon me.

We are apt to ascribe our Successes in this World, and to impute our Misfortunes to wrong Causes. We assume the One to our selves, and charge the other upon Providence.
